From your description it seems clear that you were not around to experience feminism as it was during its height. At that time the today-unknown N.O.W. was a political force to be reckoned with. There was a move to impose sameness amongst the genders “since male-female differences were merely imposed by males upon females for the benefit of males.” Imposing means something like, there should the equal amount of males and females in every endeavor of life, be it in university or brick layers or firemen (firewomen) with merit being of no bearing and with women’s interest in those arenas… Read more »

re:feminism

Many feminists are so confused about their own feminism that at some time, when their biological clocks start ticking so loudly they simply can’t ignore them, they suddenly decide they’d really like to have a child after all. Unfortunately, the results are often disasterous, but at that point few of them would admit they’d chosen the wrong “ism.” How sad for everyone involved…

For a woman to choose to marry young, (early 20s) have children young (pre-35) and choose to raise a family over pursuit of a career is not very highly regarded in our modern society. Such an attitude is a pure expression of feminism and nothing… Read more »

feminism is far from dead
November 7, 2010 5:15 pm

it is alive and well, and surrounds us, politics are filled with women who demand to be treated like men (think sarah palin), feminism is so strong that women no longer consider marriage to be necessary, and rates of children born out of wedlock continue to climb as do divorce rates, many women don’t get married at all, and many women are “choosing” not to have children, not realizing how their “independant” decision is influenced by FEMINISM feminism is so alive and well, that there are no longer demonstrations to fight for women’s rights, feminsm has completely entrenched itself in… Read more »

Feminisim?

Many thanks for sharing this special letter of Rebbe. Just to clarify a point about Feminism (and this letter is NOT about feminism). Feminism has long been dead and buried since the early 90’s. That movement may have left some residue on the minds of people today, but a movement it is not. The last dying gasps of feminism as a movement remains in a few pockets of, for the lack of a better word, I will call a particular brand of Modern Orthodox types, who have the illusion that they know enough to affect a sway in certain halachic… Read more »
