Rabbi Shais Taub, author of the Tanya Map and the JLI course Soul Maps, is known for his unique capacity to explain spiritual concepts and their practical applications to everyday life.
In his new book, G-d of Our Understanding, Taub applies his deep knowledge and penetrating insight to the often misunderstood, sometimes controversial topic of addiction and recovery.
The title comes from a common expression in recovery which Taub explains means the need for a personal relationship with G-d.
“Recovery is a spiritual program,” says the Pittsburgh-based author, “and like everything, can be explained using the words and concepts of chassidus.”
Taub’s groundbreaking synthesis of Jewish spiritual terminology and 12 Steps expressions has already won praise from the pioneer in the field, Rabbi Dr. Abraham J. Twerski.
Twerski, a noted Psychiatrist and the author of more than 60 books, gave Taub’s book a ringing endorsement saying it “should be read by all rabbis, therapists, people in recovery, people who should be in recovery and their family members.”
The book’s publisher, Ktav Publication Society in New Jersey, reports that the first two printings have already sold out just from advance orders made by many Chabad Shluchim around the world who are apparently giving the book to their congregants who struggle with these issues.

Go look! Let’s push it up to #1!
Judaica World is the only one who has the book in Crown Heights.
The book is now ranked #3 in the Judaism section on Amazon! I strongly recommend that every shliach and every educator buy a copy, and read it! I actually think that you should buy 3 copies, so you always have one handy to give out!
