As they were choosing between potato kugel and sweet yerushalmi kugel for Shabbos, customers of Dovid Malka’s Takeout were witness on Friday afternoon to a wild car chase.
NYPD’s 71 Precinct vehicles were racing with dizzying speed against traffic on Crown Heights streets trying to catch up with a fleeing car thief.
Stunned residents watched as the cars turned the Troy corner onto Carroll Street and came to a halt when the tire of the thief’s silver SUV broke off.
The driver ran through an alley towards President Street, with cops jumping out of SUV’s following in pursuit.
As police blocked the street off and surrounded the car with yellow ‘Do Not Cross’ tape, residents crowded around to watch.
“Now we’re definitely going to have a quiet Shabbos,” one resident joked, watching the events along with other curious locals.
Police told COLlive the suspect has not been caught, but they have identified him.

I’m sure that if he was double parked for 2 minutes during street cleaning they would have caught him and punished him with the $115 fine for such a heinous crime.

it was really freaky to watch! they didnt say that the car was going the wrong way on troy ave. he was coming from president and turned into carroll not the way that the street goes… also really stupid pics… i saw it n was really cool how the helicopter really close to the roof of the buildings goin round n round to look 4 him… was really frreky.. was really fire comin out of the car n i saw the guy run out of the car 4 his life…..
