5 Lubavitchers are in the top 20 in the Second Annual Jewish Community Heroes Campaign by the Jewish Federations of North America.
Over 300,000 votes were cast for more than 200 nominees, said Andy Neusner, a coordinator of the online contest.
Among the 20 semifinalists are:
6. Dmitriy Salita – Brooklyn, New York
7. Rabbi Dovid Tiechtel – Champaign, Illinois
12. Rabbi Yisroel Bernath – Montreal, Quebec
13. Rabbi Dovid Goldstein – Houston, Texas
15. Rivkee Rudolph – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Coming in as number 11 is Pinny Lipshutz, editor of the Yated weekly and a resident of Monsey, New York, who has taken a lead role in helping Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin by raising awareness and funds.
A panel of judges will select the 5 finalists – all of whom receive a Heroes grant. The judges will evaluate the semifinalists based on their efforts to strengthen the Jewish community and uphold the ideals of tikkun olam – repairing the world.
The 2010 Jewish Community Hero of the Year will be announced at the JFNA General Assembly in New Orleans from November 7-9.

i’m missing something….? what about shlom mordechi.. he’s the greats hero lubavitch has today!
You guys are right. It’s true.
I think the above should win. He has done so much work in bringing SMR to the forefront. What happened to the Lubavitchers? I cannot understand why they have not done more to help SMR. PL needs and deserves every penny he gets in keeping non Lubavitchers involved with SMR
Every contestant has a profile on the community heroes site. You can read about what they are involved it.
Yisroel Mendel you’re the best! Keep up the great work and hatzlacha!

360 leaves you back where you started.
I think that aside from the Shemtovs, it’s almost regressive to have Friendship Circle coordinators nominated as heroes. I think the FC volunteers, parents, or children themselves are tremendous heroes but to show the world that the best we can offer is the cookie cutter FC Directors isn’t putting our best foot forward.
Go Rabbi Bernath!!!!!
Take a Misnagid who was raised with such sina for Chabad that no matter the cicumstance would never walk into a chabad House and saw the truth in the Rubashkin case.He made an internal 360!How many of us can say that?
Go Rivkee!! Your amazing!!!
go rivkee!!!
I have been wondering the same thing, and i also dont mean to be snide, im sure hes a special person
wow Bernaths!!!!!!
Go Rabbi Dovid Tiechtel!!
wow 9999 votes!
#7!
Iam a Lubavitcher and I wish everyone hatzlacha rabbah, but i would have voted for Pinny L. (If I would have known about the contest) because he is a man who showed courage and strength and to out and seek the truth and really help out another Jew, though he looks different than him, above and beyond in dedication, loyalty and love.
But why is he being nominated as a Jewish hero. Is there something else other than the boxing? (This is not a snide comment, I genuinely want to know)
They will maybe pick one ‘token’ lubavitcher..
really hope he wins!!!
GO RIVKEE RUDOLPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
