The Israeli Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger paid a visit last week to the Amersfoort Shul, concidered the oldest synagogue of Europe that is active on Shabbos and which was recently vandalized.
Just a few month ago, the entrance of the 280 year-old shul was desecrated with red pray by anonymus vandals shortly after Israel’s clash with the Turkish arms Flotilla heading to Gaza.
In his visit, Metzger was warmly greeted by the Dutch Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, Shliach and Rabbi of Amersfoort Shimon Evers, Franklin de Liever – secretary general of the Joodse Gemeente Amersfoort and the shul’s gabbi Yitschak Elzas.
Amersfoort has the most beautiful shul!
