Rabbi Arele Matusof and his wife Chaya (nee Krinsky) are the newly appointed Chabad Shluchim to Calgary, the largest city in the Province of Alberta, Canada.
The young couple will be running the Chabad Youth Center there, whose activities include the Hebrew School, summer, winter and spring day camps, Shabbos and Yomtov programs and more.
And if that is not enough, another goal of theirs will be to establish a local branch of the Friendship Circle – the international network supporting children with special needs and their families.
Matusof was appointed by his uncle Rabbi Menachem Matusof, the Head Shliach of Alberta.
Arele and Chaya will be joining Shliach Rabbi Moti Groner, Director of Adult Education and JLI of Chabad Alberta, and Mr. Daniel Shimonov and Mr. Avriel Gafni, local members of the community who have joined the team of Shluchim.
Calgary, with its rapidly growing population of almost 1.1 million, is estimated to have over 10,000 Jews, the new Shliach told COLlive.com.
Chabad came to Calgary in 1988. To date, approximately 2,500 families are affiliated with Chabad which hosts many programs for all ages and has daily Minyonim.
The couple who were married 6 months ago will be moving out on shlichus after Sukkos due to the “high demand,” he said.
