From Rabbi Mendy And Tzippy Weiss, Directors of Chabad Miami Lakes, Florida:
Dear Crown Heights residents and heads of COLlive.com,
Many people kvetch and complain about different things that go on in Crown Heights (shluchim included).
However I would like to share an act of pure, unconditional Ahavas Yisroel that just occurred.
My husband and I are so touched by this, we thought it was necessary to let everyone know and shep Nachas, that within Crown Heights still lies the “emesdike chassidim,” and there are not just a few – there are countless and they all deserve credit.
We recently booked tickets to go to Crown Heights for Chol Hamoed Sukkos with our family. I thought it would be an easy task to find a place, just for the nights, not even for Yom Tov.
I couldn’t find a rental just for that time. Most of our friends are hosting family and or/other friends, and our siblings do not live there as they are on shlichus or business elsewhere. Both our parents live in other places.
Thanks to COLlive.com and their effective rental listings in the Classifieds, I began the trek of emails and negotiations to rent someone’s apartment for three days.
But who wants to lend or rent their apartment to total strangers for 3 days?
After sending an email to a random COLlive “ad poster”, I got a response that moved me to tears… Such Ahavas Yisroel, you just don’t see anywhere – but it is alive and well in Crown Heights.
Names below have been erased so as not to embarrass anyone. Here is the response to my email:
Dear Rabbi Weiss,
Since it appears you are Shluchim, you will give us an opportunity to help you guys out. You will be able to stay free of charge. Make yourselves feel at home! My number is 718——— and wife’s number is 917——– (her name is ——).
When you arrive you will just need to find out where we are leaving the key, perhaps you have a relative we can leave it by?
How many kids do you have?
We have the master bedroom plus one room that has a crib and high riser. The third bedroom is an office (with a skylight that can be closed up with a garbage bag) and it has a pullout couch that sleeps one. We only have two blankets for the high riser and one other thin blanket. Please let us know how many beds to set up.
Thank you,
—— ————-
But this is true, when it comes to hachnoas orchim, man, you guys are AMAZING!
If only when it came to shidduchim you would me just a little bit less worried about the pictures and what the neighbors will think…
!!!!!!!!!!!
yey…anyone willing to give a building to them to use as a chabad house????????????????????
go chaya and perel i love u guys!!!
yes?
What the shluchim should do is to open randomlly the tzach list and the first name they should call and the CH’re should say yes
thanks for sharing!!

do you have to?
there was so much possitivity, then….
now, what are you going to say about MY word?
resist the temptation to comment on it.
For the positivity. Fortunately with close to 3,000 residents in the community there are many great deeds done on a regular basis that go unnoticed. Unfortunately many news agency focus on the few negative. Please keep posting the more positive ones.
Thanks
CH Resident!
this is a clear case of passing the buck!!
from the king of corny jokes
seriously: let’s pass on more bucks: mitzvah goreres mitzvah!
Moshiach Now!
the Weisss are awesome! thanks for being the good ‘ol positive side!
being in america doesnt make u learn english
MOVE TO ENGLAND
wow! your man in china really gets you places, eh? chag sameach
check it out Rabbi Mendy Weiss was nominated….he is an awesome Rabbi…vote for him
With the amount of residents in CH there should be 1000 more not 50
But as many as it is kein yirbu
Kol hakavod to the hosts and I thin that for the upcoming kinus hashluchim and later in shvat for shluchos there should be a way that if you can host you should let THEM know, I know many that don’t come because they don’t have where to stay.
U guys deserve it!! I was starting to get mixed messages about Ahavas Yisroel………… BH this article came just in the right time……………..
Perhaps only in Crown Heights can one get a “a unique – perhaps typical – response.”
I was thinking the same thing – that this is the kind of thing that would go in the “I was touched” in the nshei.
really beautiful!
Once where on the ahavas yisroel topic I would like to share a small story that happened to me. I was at kahans before yom kippur buying some food. when it came time to pay I noticed I was a dollar short, I was about to leave the store without buying the item that was a dollar over when the lady standing next to me offered to pay for it. She told me that someone once helped her when she was a buck short and she wanted to pass along the favor. I was very touched.
its nice to see something positive being written about on collive. there’s so much much focus on the minority: all the constant infighting etc. and for some reason that usually gets the spotlight on col, and sadly that’s the picture that is painted for shluchim worldwide. thank you for showing what the real majority of c.h. is truly about.
its so nice to see good things about ch being posted
i don’t know weiss, but i like this word ‘the incredibilism’, first time i am hearing it, and i have been in america for over 30 years.
only in crown heights!
so nice
attention collive: can there be a “random act of kindness ssection starting for the new year?just a small box where ppl can write a nice thing someone did for them, we need more stories like this and i am sure they acure often and go unnoticed!(sort of like “i was touched ” in neshei chabad
Such kindness
keep thees coming
The classifieds are a great part of this website.
Thank you Col.
Yay for you! Yay for them! Yay for everyone!!
tnx for sharing
go weisses!!! haha love ya’ll…and love chaya espessially!!!!ur the best sis eva!!
hows it going roovy?
any other shluchim family need a place?
about time i actually groaned when i was like another ego on display to vent on my back all the time
but this was pleasant and beautiful and positive
Nice ahavas isroel!!!!!
CH is the rock! and for all you naysayers and ch haters just remember it was The Freidiker Rebbe and OUR REBBE that choose this holy ground as there abode and it was OUR REBBE that called this place KAN TZIVAH!!!!
Good 4 u so excited it all worked out and u have a place!
rlg
let me tell you,
for every one AHAVAS YISROEL act that is published and appreciated,
ther are at least 50 more acts
of genuine AHAVAS YISROEL
being done,
without anybody ever publishing it.
i wittiness it over and over again and again.
yes the the shchuna of the rebbe could definitely be very proud with the goodness and kindness that is constantly taking place in a very discrete way.
…of the weiss’s. Seriously though, Mendy and Tzippy Weiss are without question the most amazing people on the planet. Their incrediblism is only surpassed by their awesomeness. I wish i could’ve been in crown heights just so i may bask in their majesty.
The negativity is always on show, but the beauty is always there… And so much of it too!
thanks for letting us know about the good people out there!!!
by speaking good things about yidden!
thanks for sharing!
i’m sure there are many people who have what to share!
For posting this Hakaras Hatov. People are very quick to write op eds and stuff when they need to vent and complain, it is refreshing to see a plain and simple thank you!
