As part of its continuing expansion and community outreach, the North County Chabad Center in Yorba Linda, California, is forming a Jewish Active Senior Center for men and women age 55 and up.
There are not many Jewish senior centers in North Orange County, and the Chabad Center saw a need within the community, said Adrienne Shwarzman, who is helping to organize the senior center.
“The goal is to give them something to look forward to every Tuesday, get them out of the alternative housing and be near people of the Jewish faith,” said Shwarzman, who has been calling around to neighboring retirement homes to reach out to local seniors.
The Jewish center will be held every Tuesday starting Sept. 28 at 19045 Yorba Linda Blvd.
Activities will include a book club, card games, fitness classes, Yiddish and Hebrew classes, guest speakers and movies. The Chabad Center is working to provide low-cost transportation options, and monthly fees for the center will be $10.
Although outreach is a part of the Chabad mission, the senior center isn’t about getting people to attend services, it’s about friendship and a sense of community, Naomi Blesofsky of the Chabad Center said.
The best chabad house in yorba linda!
I have been doing the exact same thing at Chabad of Coral Springs for the last 7 years. It has become the most highly attended weekly class or event we have. Yashar Koach!
Always growing! Hatzlacha!
