Hamayan of Melbourne are proudly hosting Reb Shlomo Katz from Israel this Tishrei.
Shlomo Katz inspired and uplifted the Kehillah on Rosh Hashana and Shabbos Shuva with his beautiful voice and soul-stirring niggunim.
Rabbi Mordechai Szmerling, spiritual leader of Hamayan, said that it is an honor and a privilege to have Shlomo Katz, a dear friend of his, back in Melbourne, this time with his wife Bina, and baby, Tiferet.
Mr. Howard Finger, President of Hamayan, said that the past year has been a year of amazing growth for the community.
“It is hard to believe that only one year ago, we davenned as a kehillah for the first time, in our new home in North Caulfield (a neighborhood of Melbourne),” he said. “Remarkably, in the past year, we have built a strong daily minyan, host uplifting tefillos on all Shabbosim and Yom Tovim, beautiful, healthy weekly kiddushim, and a weekly Shalosh Seudo.”
Hamayan holds at least five regular weekly shiurim and a weekly Chevrusa Evening. Hamayan also offers musical, literary, Rosh Chodesh, social, creative and various other events, at all times seeking to assist individuals in need.
“Thankfully, we have been able to maintain and extend the special Hamayan atmosphere of warmth, welcome, simcha and integrity,” continues Finger. “Our community is blessed with a special Rabbi and special individuals who make sure that the shul runs smoothly. We welcome new faces, and strive to serve Hashem with honesty and love.”
Hamayan has a reputation as the musical shul of Australia. The shul organizes regular musical events and kumzitzes. This is the second time that Hamayan has brought out Reb Shlomo Katz from Israel for the Yomim Noraim. During the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, Shlomo will hold two concerts in Australia, accompanied by five amazing musicians.
Originating from a family of musicians, Shlomo Katz has composed many beautiful songs and niggunim. Shlomo has released five CDs, and held concerts all over the world. Every time he performs, Shlomo inspires his audiences with beautiful divrei Torah and inspiring stories. In Israel he teaches his students both Nigleh and Chassidus.
Hamayan will be holding two concerts in Melbourne during the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah featuring Shlomo Katz backed up by five musicians. Tickets for these concerts in Melbourne can be reserved by emailing to [email protected] or calling Gary on 0432-492-724 (Melbourne) or by purchasing on line at www.hamayan.org.

thank you for touching so many lives, so many people increased their levels of observance directly because of Hamayan and Rabbi Mordechai and Ruth Szmerling. If the Szmerlings ever helped you, in my humble opinion I suggest you make a donation at www. Hamayan.org

Hamayan is an outstanding and unique Shul. Rabbi Mordechai and Rebbetzin Ruth Szmerling and their children are amazing Shluchim to Hamayan. Rabbi Szmerling is also famous around the world for teaching boys at Yeshivah Gedolah and girls at Ohel Chana for the last 25 years. I was one of his students and he’s the best! Hamayan should grow from strength to strength.

I was blown away and really inspired by last night’s concert.
It’s not surprising because Hamayan is one shul which really reaches out to and touches so many people, especially young people, from all across the broad spectrum of the community.
Yasher Koach to Rabbi Szmerling, a true-blue Rabbi if ever I met one, and Kol Ha Kavod to all the amazing and special people at Hamayan!
May Hashem bless you with continued and increasing Hatzlocha in the new year!!!
I am so glad that Hamayan made it to COL news! It truly is a unique minyan with a top class Rabbi and wonderful people. It is always a pleasure to daven there and experience everybody singing together. It’s one of those few Shuls where the chazzan doesn’t have to worry about putting on a show- everyone is singing together, there is a real feeling of unity. Went to the Shlomo Katz concert last night- what a spectacular evening. The intimate venue was perfect, it almost felt like a private performance. Shlomo did a great job, as did the band,… Read more »
Hamayan is an amazing place and they seem to try so hard to help everyone and anyone. You instantly feel welcome and cared for from the oment when you step inside the shul – irrespective of your age, sex, level of frumkeit etc. Its is unique experience. Although you wold never know it – what is suprising though is that so many people attend and receive so much from going there but few really acknowledge (by joining as members or making donations) the time and effort that is obviously put in to make it a special place. We should tell… Read more »
