Chickens for the Kapparos ritual before Yom Kippur will again be subsidized for Crown Heights residents thanks to two local landlords and a diamond dealer.
The traditional custom of transferring sins, organized by National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE), will only cost $5 per chicken.
NCFJE’s Rabbi Shea Hecht thanked Yossi Popack, a real estate owner in the Chassidic neighborhood, for contributing generously.
The donation was matched by philanthropist Morris Gad and Dovid Fischer who also sponsored the Kapporos last year.
Amounts are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis, Hecht notified.
All proceeds and chickens will be donated to families in need and community organizations such as Hadar HaTorah Yeshivah, CSSY (Chevra Simchas Shabbos V’Yomtov), Tomchei Shabbos and others.
DATES & TIMES
Wednesday, September 15 – Tishrei 7 from 2 PMto 8 PM, in front of 824 Eastern Parkway. $5
Erev Yom Kippur, Tishrei 9, from Thursday 8 PM until 6 AM Friday morning, in front of 824 Eastern Parkway. Chickens will no longer be $5.
@empire shtibele no chicken is thrown away i assure you you can see them opened on the spot!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE DO KAPOROS WITH CHICKENS AND THEN THROW THE CHICKENS AWAY BECAUSE THEY CANT KASHER THEM!! ITS BAAL TASHCHIS AND A TERRIBLE CRIME TO WASTE GOOD FOOD!!!! IF ONE CANT KASHER THE CHICKENS IN TIME DO KAPOROS ON MONEY AND GIVE IT TO THE POOR
I know where I am going for Kaporos this year!
Thank you Rabbi Popack.
It’s so nice that they can do this. I got to Eastern Parkway every year, and I will definately be there again!
Weirdo!

The Caps Lock key is located at the far left of most keyboards, between the Tab and Shift keys. Pressing it sets an input mode in which typed letters are uppercase by default. The keyboard remains in caps lock mode until the key is pressed again. Glad to be of service.
Mr Popack, Gad & Fisher instead of helping the ungrateful residents of Crown Heights, How about sponsoring our kappores? In Cincinnati we would be delighted to pay $5 / Chicken & extremely grateful
Rabbi Shea Hecht and the NCFJE do wonders for this community on many fronts. instead of these rediculous complaints we should all be thanking the NCFJE and their sponsors for this wonderful oppertunity to perform this generations old tradition in an offordable manner.
just please all remember the Rebbetzin used to send her chickens to the Hechts. It is soooo easy to make someone Kosher.. The chachma is to make things right.. any fool can break. so c’mon let’s all start seeing good and positive and stop the nonsense.
The three people donating money for kaporos are doing a good thing and they should be thanked for that. period.
Do you believe the Rebbe is Moshiach? Do you want to see the Rebbe again in your lifetime? If so then why do you go against what the Rebbe said by spreading hate and lashon horah and not having ahavas yisroel?
Do you think that Yechi Adonanu will save you from the pits of Gehenom?
Good luck 3 days before Yom Kippur.
will ch ever find something not to complain about?
imagine donating $, time or effort. and all u hear is complaints. maybe they should start putting a block to any not nice comments if pple want to be pathetic and not think before they write.
thank you to my cousin rabbi shea and all those wonderful pple that stepped in to help the community
dont get paid by hecht they make money out of tips only
In MIAMI its a huge business for some individuals, charging 22$ a chick!
Maybe we can get some relatives of those individuals to sponsor it!
Our chickens are $18 and $22 in S. Monica and on Pico Blvd they cost $26. Complaining about $5 is incredible!
your the man
Rabbi Hecht once again you are concerned about the needy! If you out there have something nice to say or wish to volunteer your time do so.Otherwise keep silent perhaps it will bring a refuah to all our suffering bretheren in klal yisroel
Thank you ncfje Rabbi Shea and your chessedika sons. I an outsider have benefitted from your chesed and NO ONE knows about it.I will happily pay my $5.00 and come to Eastern Parkway ,thank you!
Thank you for you continued commitment to the community.
May the legacy of Rabbi Hecht continue with strengthening of this great organization.
Please go elsewhere to get your chickens if your unhappy that R’ dovid Fisher is helping to supplement the poor of crown heights. Last I checked Sholom ber Drizin the supporter of the Meshichistim has not sponsored a dime Neither have any other meshichistim. Why? because there is no real kovod in it… thank you R’ Dovid Fischer, Morris Gad and Yossi Popack for helping the people of crown heights. Maybe thru the eyes of people who do good to help others we will see the final redemption. Its not going to be thru the generosity of #1 or #16… Read more »
in england
i agree with #12 so dont use chickens use money
I am not trying to say i agree with the protest
That’s more than $23 in the US making us the most expensive in the world – like pretty much everything else! What you need to remember is someone somewhere who is organising this is making money. And shouldn’t that be his/their right? If you want cheaper, schlep out to the farm, buy your own chicken, organise your own shoichet and sholom al Yisroel! You should also remember that you only need one zochor for all the males in your family and one nikaivah for all the females. If you want to be mihader bemitzvois and can afford one for each… Read more »
The chickens are treated so horribly during transport and are left out with no food to eat in cramped conditions. This is tzar ba’alei chayim and a mitzvah haba be’aveirah. Use money instead.
none as expensive as in England
how much are kappores for non residents
I go do kapores at empire shitiebel bc they kasher it on the spot right there EVERY chicken and mendel feldman is very nice about it also!!!
i agree with all u say, just with one correction – the shochtim do come free – they dont get paid, any money they make is only from tips
i so agree with #1!
Everyone can afford it now
Super rip off in miami, its worth a family to fly to nY then by each one a chicken,!!!!
BH
BSD
EVEN FOR KAPOROS, ON ASERES YIMAY TESHUVA WE NEED TO SEE BIKERING, AND COMPLAINING
AND PEOPLE WANT MOSHIACH
PEOPLE WANT A KISEEVAH AND CHASEEMAH TOVAH
OY VAY
$5 a chicken is a joke – why do we ALWAYS complain?!?! Think about what is being done here – it’s not a shlachthoiz that is raising the chickens….. 1) NCFJE has to buy the chickens – they cost more then $2 a pc 2) they need to rent a truck to transport the chickens 3) they need shochtim – those don’t come free 4) they need people to clean, kasher & process the chicken 5) they have a HUGE mess to clean up when you go home! Try arranging it yourself & see what it costs! & btw –… Read more »
3 people donate thousands of dollars and the first three commentators have only negative things to say!
Maybe they should just not give to ungrateful ppl…
First of all we don’t call people by their last names it is not nice. If there is a cherem and you feel you don’t want to buy there then don’t. The anger is felt in your message #1, I am sure that you have much more anger in you for many more things that upset you. Take all your anger out, write down whatever bothers you on paper, read it over and over till you calm yourself down, then rip it up and burn it or through it out. May hashem give you calm and peaceful year this year and… Read more »
it cost 18$
in france that cost 15€ aproximatly 20$
In Miami overpriced chickens at 22$. Go figure
in montreal they charge 12$ a person
They usually only use the females and throw most of the males away. The meat on the males isn’t as good and there are too many to kasher so quickly, so they kasher the best ones. That’s another reason why it’s cheaper to do the kapporos a few days before Erev Yom Kippur, because there’s more time to kasher the chickens so there’s less waste.
why should it be more than 5 dollars when u buy it from the store after shchitah, kashering, butchering and packaging its not much more than that – why are we being robbed its one thing to ask for tzedakkah but to charge so much more is just a rishus
What a racket!…why do they always raise prices for those who want to do Kaparos in the right time??
fisher is STILL in cheirem. these acts are trying to absolve him.
