Is it vaccines? Is it the genetically modified foods we eat? It may be the child of a sibling or a friend, or it may be your own. While the scientific theories behind this abound, we are all aware that the number of children born in recent years with special needs and developmental delays has risen tremendously.
The parents of these beautiful children are suddenly thrown into a whirlpool of therapists, doctors, and lawyers in an effort to provide their children with the best possible treatment to adjust their growth and development, and to receive financial assistance from the various government programs available.
Such help is luckily available and effective. Today, therapists can train children to walk and talk to a degree that was once considered unimaginable. Children receiving proper therapy can catch up to their peers and be part of a regular classroom environment, and thankfully, Crown Heights boasts its own supply of speech, physical, and occupational therapists.
Research has shown, however, that effective therapy using proper equipment is incomparable to home visitors hauling a bag of manipulatives. Until this point, the existing options available in Crown Heights were either home visits or in-school therapy lacking proper equipment.
Parents/caregivers seeking to provide their children with therapy via state-of-the-art equipment were made to travel daily to Boro Park or other environs of Crown Heights.
This Thursday, September 2nd, will mark the opening of Milestones Childhood Center, which will provide premier facility-based therapy to children with developmental delays residing in Crown Heights. The center will host therapeutic services which will include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling and special education teacher support services (SETSS & P-3). The brand new, handicap accessible, sensory gym will help provide appropriate interventions to improve the development of the children.
The center is run by experienced and licensed therapists who have been working with the Crown Heights community for the past fifteen years and have joined together to coordinate this center.
The beautiful, new facility located at 571 East New York Ave, exceedingly surpasses the medical requirements and will meet the goal of providing our community members the opportunity to have their children’s potential maximized.
Currently, all children ages 3 and up can be serviced at this location. The center will soon service children from birth to age 3 (Early Intervention) as well. All children with an IEP will be serviced.
The center is equipped to service several children at once in its various rooms, and for those children requiring several different types of therapy, the center will allow for consecutive appointments and the assorted therapists to cover as much as possible in one visit. Space is limited and is on a first-come first-serve basis.
If you would like to take advantage of this historic development you are urged to contact Leah at 347-663-9027 or email [email protected]. All are welcome to the Open House on Thursday, September 2nd, 10:00-2:00 and 5:00-7:00.
